On the road

Aug 2nd – 10:02
Yesterday we made some eleventh hour travel plans for this long weekend. We’re going on the road – hiring a car for a couple of days and driving generally southwards to see what we find. Good company, lots of music and snack food, nice landscapes and quaint villages, and hopefully a little bit of sunshine!

We’re planning to stay tonight at Benvoy but other than that our plans are pretty fluid. I’m hoping we’ll be able to find some wifi along the way so we can update this post as we go!

Well, unfortunately we didn’t come across any wireless on our travels over the weekend but we did have a great time.

A few highlights from the road trip:

  • Receiving a Toyota Prius from the rental car company. Although not the car we asked for we were pretty happy with the Prius. Matt found it very nice to drive and we got extra greenie points and more milage from the hybrid petrol / electric engine!
  • Stopping off at a quiet sandy beach along the way and enjoying the sunshine and surrounds.
  • A beautiful dinner at The Vee Bistro in Tramore on Saturday. Good service and lovely food, so much better in quality and price than anything we’ve come across in Dublin!
  • Taking a tiki tour through a small place called Stradbally and stumbling across a development of brand new thatched roof houses. They looked so adorable – just like we’d walked into a hobbit town! I didn’t realise they still built houses with thatch rooves.
  • Being on the road, watching the countryside go by and realising that a lot of Ireland is not all that different from NZ once you get out of the city.

There are a few photos from our tiki tours in the gallery if you’d like to see where we got to.

Looks like you had a great sunny weekend. We had your usual Dublin weather I think – 3rd weekend in a row and I’m not sure how many days of it!! The river area down below the house is well and truly flooded once again.
